Okta Managed MCP

Beta

Ferentin connects to the Okta Managed MCP Server hosted on your own Okta org using an OIDC app integration and per-user OAuth with PKCE. The Okta API scopes granted to that app decide which tools load, and Ferentin policy governs each call.

Before you connect

  • The URL shipped with this card is an EXAMPLE host. Replace it with your org's host — the endpoint is always https://{yourOktaDomain}/mcp.
  • Early Access: requires a subscription to 'IT Products - Okta Managed MCP Server' plus Core Identity and/or Identity Governance. Not available on Okta for Government (FedRAMP Moderate/High) or Okta for US Military (DoD IL4).
  • OAuth only — Okta does not support API keys or Dynamic Client Registration for this server, so there is no agent (token) mode.
  • This card requests read-only IAM scopes (users, groups, apps, policies, System Log), so the server loads read actions of okta_user_management, okta_group_management, okta_application_management, okta_access_management, and okta_syslog. Write (*.manage), device assurance, customization, and Identity Governance scopes are not requested. Even a super admin gets only the tools matching the scopes on the token.
4 more technical notes
  • Okta Identity Governance tools need the okta.governance.* / okta.accessRequests.* scopes, which exist only on orgs with Okta Identity Governance and are not requested by this card.
  • The server supports MCP protocol version 2025-11-25 only. Okta rate-limits the endpoint to 100 requests per minute per org, in addition to its general API rate limits (HTTP 429 when exceeded).
  • Do not connect the same user to both this server and the Okta open-source MCP server or Ferentin's built-in Okta server — overlapping tools confuse model tool selection.
  • The tool catalog populates on first live connection (tools/list against the upstream).

Frequently asked about Okta Managed MCP

What can AI agents do with Okta Managed MCP through Ferentin?
Through Ferentin, agents can use Okta Managed MCP for user management, group management, app assignments, policy management, system log query and access governance. Every call is checked against your Ferentin policies first.
How is Okta Managed MCP access secured?
Requests through the Okta Managed MCP integration are covered by OAuth 2.0 consent, granular scope selection, scope based tool loading and audit logging. These controls are applied by Ferentin, not by Okta Managed MCP, so they hold across every connected agent.
What permissions does the Okta Managed MCP integration require?
The Okta Managed MCP integration requests 6 OAuth 2.0 scopes: okta.users.read (read access); okta.groups.read (read access); okta.apps.read (read access); okta.policies.read (read access); okta.logs.read (read access); offline_access
How do I connect Okta Managed MCP to Ferentin?
Open the Ferentin admin console, add Okta Managed MCP as a new connection and authenticate with OAuth 2.0. You then choose which permissions and which tools your agents may use, and the connection goes live for everyone covered by your policies.
Is the Okta Managed MCP integration generally available?
The Okta Managed MCP integration is currently beta on Ferentin.
